Choosing Your Username
Overview
Your username is your unique identifier on OnPitch and becomes part of your public profile link (onpitch.io/your-username
). This lesson will help you understand the requirements and best practices for selecting a memorable, professional username that represents your brand effectively.
What You'll Need
- A clear idea of your brand or artist name
- Alternative username options in case your first choice is taken
Username Requirements
Technical Requirements
Your username must meet these specific criteria:
- Length: Between 3 and 30 characters
- Characters: Only letters (a–z, A–Z), numbers (0–9), underscores (_), and hyphens (-) are allowed
- Uniqueness: Must not already be taken by another OnPitch user
- Case insensitive:
MyBand
andmyband
are considered the same username
Best Practices for Username Selection
1. Keep It Simple and Memorable
Choose a username that's easy to remember, spell, and share verbally:
- Good:
johnsmith
,rockband2024
,indie_artist
- Avoid:
j0hn_sm1th_music_2024_official
,x_x_rockstar_x_x
2. Match Your Brand Identity
Your username should align with how fans already know you and how your brand will be recognized during verification processes, such as registering your own dedicated toll-free number with carriers and completing WhatsApp Business verification with Meta.
- Use your actual artist, band, or business name whenever possible
- If your name is taken, try variations like adding your genre, year, or location
- Keep your core name intact to maintain brand recognition
- Consistency across OnPitch, social media, and business documentation makes phone number verification easier
Why this matters: Phone number registrations and Meta Business verification rely on clear brand alignment. A username that matches your brand improves your chance of fast approval.
What Happens After You Choose
Once you select and confirm your username:
- It becomes your permanent OnPitch profile URL:
onpitch.io/your-username
- This link will be used for all fan signups and profile sharing
- You can generate QR codes that direct to this URL
- The username appears in your public profile and intake forms
Troubleshooting Common Issues
